Stan takes on The Big One

Daredevil Stan Bowes is determined to take the plunge... down the OUTSIDE of Britain’s scariest seaside rollercoaster.
Next month the 69 year old from Diggle will abseil from the top of Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s The Big One rollercoaster.
The Big One was the tallest and steepest rollercoaster in the world when it opened in 1994, and is still one of the tallest coasters.
But while the 200ft abseil might be too much for most, Stan is braving the challenge for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, which works with disabled soldiers and their families.
Stan, assistant governor in Rotary District 1280, was inspired by a presentation given by the charity at a Rotary conference last year.
He said: “In a moment of weakness I volunteered to abseil from the top of The Big One to raise funds.”
Stan has already raised more than £500 for ABF, but is keen to raise more.
