CROMPTON pool: waiting for a reopening date
SWIMMERS at Crompton Pool are waiting for news ab out the pool’s reopening.
The pool, run by Oldham Community Leisure (OCL), was closed on May 6 after a fault was found in the hot water tank.
Councillor Howard Sykes, leader of Oldham’s Liberal Democrats, has blasted OCL for not informing the public about what is happening and saying when the pool will open again.
The closure sparked fears the pool might never reopen: the facility is due to close next year on completion of the new £8 million Royton pool and leisure centre.
But Councillor Sykes said Oldham Council is committed to keeping the pool open until the new centre is ready. He said OCL has confirmed it is seeking options on repairs to the tank.
OCL chief executive Stuart Lockwood apologised and said: “We are committed to keeping the pool open. We will issue an update as soon as we possibly can.”
