Making tracks for charity

A FUND-RAISING farmer is joining nine others on a mammoth 157-mile vintage tractor marathon to raise money charity When You Wish Upon a Star.

Farmer and milkman Philip Day (57), who owns and runs Hanging Chadder Farm in Royton, is riding from Blackpool North Pier to Cleethorpes on Wednesday with nine friends, all of whom are fans of vintage tractors.

The trip is expected to take the team four days, and Philip can’t wait to get started: “I am really looking forward to the trip; we are raising money for a really nice cause.”

Philip has six vintage tractors and will be riding his favourite David Brown machine. He is paying all his costs so every penny raised will go to the charity, which makes the wishes of terminally or very sick children come true.

En route the convoy of all British-built-tractors will take in the former tractor manufacturing sites of Bristol Tractors near Burnley, International Harvester near Bradford, David Brown near Huddersfield and others. In Cleethorpes, the convoy will be joined by 100 tractors from Lincolnshire and the surrounding area, and parade along Cleethorpes Promenade.
