A SADDLEWORTH village was sealed off by police yesterday when a 42-year-old woman was taken to hospital after a stabbing incident.
Officers were called to a terraced house in Dobcross New Road shortly before 5am. Police later said a 16-year-old girl had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The victim was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary for treatment to injuries to her back and remains in a serious condition. The girl is in custody.
Local residents were woken by sounds of screaming in the early hours of Sunday. One said: “It sounded a bit desperate — but I thought it was foxes. When I got up the road was cordoned off and police officers and forensics were all over place.”
Police have appealed for anyone with information to call them on 0161-856 9063.
