Sewer upgrade begins
Date published: 30 May 2014
THE first phase of a major sewer upgrade in Saddleworth begins on Monday.
The £1m project by United Utilities will initially bring temporary traffic signals in Uppermill and diversions across the area.
The key works take place on Church Road and New Street but the first phase of the four-month operation concentrates on Smithy Lane. There will be diversions along Smithy Lane, High Street, Bridge Street, Carr Lane, Rush Hill Road, Grove Road, Shaws Lane and Station Road.
For two weeks from June 9, the second phase will focus on Bolton’s Yard’s whole length between New Street and Smithy Lane. Other phases will follow over the repair period.
