War centenary events launched
Date published: 10 June 2014
OLDHAMERS are being urged to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One.
The council is organising a series of events and has launched website www.oldhamremembers.org.uk, to honour the contribution Oldhamers made during the 1914-18 war.
Anyone with a family connection to the war is asked to share their story online to build up a picture of the borough’s link with the events of a century ago. Anyone organising an anniversary event is also asked to share the details.
There will be a launch event at Oldham Library on Saturday (from 1pm), featuring guest speakers, market stalls and the chance to get help researching family history.
The Mayor of Oldham will lead a civic procession and service of commemoration at Oldham Parish Church to mark the centenary on July 13,
