THIS mini mountain of beers and spirits was seized from underage drinkers heading to last weekend’s Saddleworth Whit Friday celebrations.
Chief Insp Jo Marshall said despite appeals her officers still had to confiscate a “significant” amount of alcohol.
“Some young people and parents view seizing alcohol as police being ‘spoil sports’, but it’s really important they understand the risks,” she declared.
“Throughout the event young people had to be taken to the civic hall in Uppermill for their own safety due to the effects of alcohol. Ambulances had to be called for two youngsters.”
Overall the chief inspector praised event organisers: “Everyone worked really hard in the run-up and on the night of the contest. The weather was fantastic and people were in good spirits enjoying the bands and the atmosphere.”
She added: “My officers had to make a small number of arrests but overall the event was a huge success.”
