GLORIOUS sunshine saw crowds flock to a sizzling Oldham Carnival and RootZ Festival yesterday.
Alexandra Park was packed for the annual spectacular with lots of attractions to keep people of all ages entertained.
The UK Dance Troupe Championships also took place while Mahdlo Youth Zone organised a range of events to celebrate the culmination of its fundraising and awareness week.
As well as the now traditional parade round the park, 217 runners completed the first Milltown Carnival 7k race, won by former Saddleworth School teacher and Great Britain runner Andi Jones in 22 minutes, 12 seconds - one minute 19 seconds ahead of his nearest rival. Kerry Wood Doyle was the first woman home in 30.14 minutes.
Families at the carnival included Dawn Taylor from Shaw who was with her four-year-old Grandson Marley.
She said: “It’s lovely. It is the first time I have been and there is plenty going on. I wanted to bring my grandson and he has mostly been on the bouncy castles.”
Nine-year-old David Chew from Bolton and his brother, Matthew (6) enjoyed the free inflatable human skittles and badminton, and also bought a teddy each from the Oldham Deaf Society stall.
Tucking into candy floss, Matthew said: “I like everything!”
