FINAL straight . . . Matty Street
A TALENTED teenager is on the final straight to win a £30,000 karting sponsorship deal.
Matty Street (17), from Moorside, has been karting since he was 12 - and hopes one day to become a Formula 1 driver.
He is now in the finals of the Blair Project Rising Star competition — which will give three racers from less-wealthy families the chance to win a fully-funded season in their chosen motor sport.
The competition is open to drivers aged 10-18.
Latics fan Matty said: “My dream is to be a Formula 1 driver. Can I get there? Who knows? But your vote will certainly help me get closer. I want to take my motor racing career further and become a professional racing driver but I can’t because I don’t have the money. The competition is my only lifeline; I would really appreciate it if local people could vote for me.”
The competition is open until June 27 and Matty, who works at the Latics club shop on match days, is urging all Oldhamers to go online and vote for his video - the contest requires entrants to upload a two-minute video explaining why they should be supported. See it at www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kwm7cdCn5vk or www.facebook.com/TheBlairProject/posts/550771905033272.
The winner will be revealed on July 1.
