FOUR teenagers - the eldest only 16 - have been arrested following an attempted raid on High Crompton post office
The four teens - aged 14, 15, 16 and 16, attempted to break into the Thornham Road post office at around 2.30am on Sunday morning after smashing a front door.
The 14 year old was held by members of the public and arrested by police who rushed to the shop. The other three were later also arrested on suspicion of burglary. All four have been bailed.
The shop manager said: “The youths tried to steal cigarettes but two locals stopped them - they chased and caught one of them and held him until the police arrived. They showed real bravery: we are very grateful to them.”
The post office was twice targeted by raiders armed with knives and machetes in 2012.
Det Cons Leigh Carnally, said: “We are now investigating and if anyone has any information that can assist, please get in touch.”
