Town’s team tops at the ‘lost’ games

OLDHAMERS took part in a day of games to revive South-East Asian village sports that have been lost through the generations.
Volunteers from Outta Skool — an Oldham based non-mainstream sports provider — represented Oldham at the annual Boishaki Mela (Bangla New Year) in Luton in a friendly tug-of-war and Kabbadi match which is a wrestling sport developed in early Indian civilisation.
The Oldham volunteers won both competitions and Moinul Islam, project manager for Outta Skool, said: “This was a great opportunity for our volunteers to showcase their talent and more importantly represent Oldham, their home town, and make everyone proud. A big thank you to our volunteers and to Oldham Academy North for providing us with the transport to get to Luton.”
The organisation’s main aims and objectives are to raise cultural awareness, confidence and leadership skills through sports and to revive and conserve games played in the villages of South-East Asia.
