Park scum

MINDLESS vandalism . . . that’s the only way to describe  acts of destruction at two Oldham parks.

At Waterhead Park, vandals have pulled dozens of stones out of the wall surrounding the children’s play park leaving the area unsafe.

And at Copster Park in Hollins, yobs have snapped four out of five newly-planted saplings.

Councillor Barbara Brownridge, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and co-operatives, said: “It’s really sad to see the damage at both Copster and Waterhead parks by some mindless individuals.

“Vandalism like this costs every resident — money will have to be spent replacing the trees and cleaning up after those who have no respect for the park.

“People who see anyone carrying out acts of vandalism in any of our parks, please contact either Oldham Council or the police.”
