Super choir hits high

AN Uppermill woman will be singing her heart out in August as part of a world premiere First World War choir tribute at Salford Quays.
Janet Askari (59) will join a host of singers to perform “Honour”, a specially written piece of music, on Saturday, August 2.
The choir will perform the emotional finale to the event in tribute to those lost and left behind during the First World War.
Janet, a researcher at Manchester University’s faculty of life science, normally performs with the Sing for Pleasure choir, currently based at Greenfield Conservative Club.
But she says her hobby will hit a high note with this opportunity which came about after a friend spotted the call for singers on Twitter.
“I got in touch with the organiser and he sent me rehearsal details and it went from there,” said Janet.
“We’ve rehearsed three times at a community centre in Salford — it has been fantastic. The musical director really gets the best out of everyone.
“I’m really looking forward to the actual day, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and all about remembering those who gave their lives in the First World War. The whole event will be a real spectacle.”
