Silver Stars take to stage
Date published: 15 July 2014
YOU are never too old to take to the stage — as the cast of Age UK Oldham’s Silver Stars talent contest will prove later this week.
This year’s show, being held at the Oldham Coliseum on Friday, is in memory of last year’s winner Harry Ogden, who died last month aged 85.
Harry wowed the judges and the crowd with his humorous poetry.
Maggie Hurley, of Age UK, said: “I’m glad Harry won last year. He’d entered for a few years and even when he never won he was so gracious.
“He was so proud and so happy that he won. He was very dapper, very smart — quite old school.”
The show will be opened and closed by Age UK Oldham’s choir, which will showcase a melody of songs from the First World War and invite the audience to sing along.
Maggie added: “It’s sending a positive image that old people can still get up there. I couldn’t do that!”
The show starts at 2pm and tickets (£1) are on sale now at the Oldham Coliseum.
