‘I’ve enjoyed my time at Blue Coat tremendously’

DEPUTY head teacher Brian Davenport is retiring after chalking up 26 years at Blue Coat School.

The 61-year-old taught in South Yorkshire before joining the Church of England secondary as head of maths.

And he says the greatest recommendation he can give the school is that his daughter Sarah went there.

“Back in my South Yorkshire days a teacher had the saying ‘would you send your children to your school?’. My daughter has come through here,” he explained.

“I have enjoyed my time at Blue Coat tremendously. It’s just the pleasure you get from being in the building; it is around the pupils and the staff, both teaching and non-teaching.

“When you are here, people are totally committed — and that includes the parents. It all comes together.”

Mr Davenport is married to Joyce, a retired Saddleworth School teacher, who he met while they were doing their teacher training at Manchester University.

They live in Saddleworth and also have a son, Richard.

He has no fixed plans for his retirement and is looking forward to taking life at his own pace.
