Housing plans set to get the nod

AMBITIOUS plans to build 59 homes in Chadderton are set to be approved by Oldham Planning Committee tomorrow — despite objections from neighbouring residents.
Countryside Properties UK and Skipworth Ltd have submitted an application to construct the mix of two and three-bed houses on the site of the old Constellation Mill in Fernhurst Street.
As part of the planning process, the developers sent flyers to 150 surrounding homes and a notice was put out in local press. As a result, four people objected and 11 people signed a petition against the proposals.
The mill was demolished in 2012 and the site was cleared, Access to the new development would be via Fernhurst Street.
The proposal states there would be 27 two-bed houses with a single parking space and 32 three-bed houses with a double parking space.
The site is within a 10-minute walk of three schools — Burnley Brow, Bare Trees and Firwood Manor —- and close to the Elk Mill retail park. The nearest bus stop is 200m away.
In approving the application, planning officers said: “The proposal represents an exciting opportunity to promote a high-quality residential scheme in a highly sustainable location.”
