Ticking all the boxes

TWO teachers from Oasis Academy Oldham won’t be putting their feet up during the summer holidays.
Instead, principal David Hayes and maths teacher Alan Hinton are tackling gruelling challenges for causes close to their hearts.
On Saturday, Mr Hinton (32) will take on Yorkshire Tough Mudder — a hard-core, 12-mile obstacle course designed by the Special Forces — to raise money for Christie Hospital where he was treated for cancer.
And Mr Hayes (41) will be doing a 140-mile coast-to-coast cycle ride from Whitehaven to Sunderland on August 24 in aid of Girls Out Loud which works with the Hollins academy.
His best friend Rachel Stevenson, who died of cancer in October, 2013, aged 43, was a mentor with the charity which helps to boost girls’ confidence and aspirations.
Mr Hinton was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in March, 2011, and underwent treatment before being told two days before Christmas that it had returned.
Mr Hinton is a back row flanker for Didsbury Toc H Rugby Union Club and does a lot of running and gym work.
Mr Hayes and Mr Hinton hope to raise at least £1,000 each. You can sponsor them at www.justgiving.com/Davids-coast2-coast or www.justgiving.com/Alan-Hinton.
