Charlie chops locks to see funds grow

A LITTLE boy who grew his hair for two-and-a-half years has had his long flowing locks chopped off to raise money for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
Nine-year-old Charlie Smith decided to grow his hair in aid of the Royton hospice which looked after his aunt Lillian who bravely lost her battle with lung cancer aged 57.
The caring youngster raised over £500 thanks to staff at Rochdale Infirmary, where mum Sarah works, as well as his teachers and friends at Mather Street Primary School in Failsworth.
Dad Brian said: “We’re so proud of him.
“Dr Kershaw’s does a fantastic job for people in extremely difficult situations so it has been a feel-good factor all round.
“Everybody put their hands in their pocket. They realise money is tight but nobody batted an eyelid. It was a really good community effort.”
Charlie had his hair cut at the Blitz Hair Salon in Mossley and now sports a fresh crop which will keep him feeling and looking cool in the summer.
