FORGING stronger community ties is at the heart of the council’s drive to engage with Oldhamers across the borough.
Discussions with taxi drivers, pub owners and cyclists have already taken place to find out what the council can do to help them and how they can help the town, with further talks with other groups in the pipeline.
The meetings are designed to build a mutual relationship with community stakeholders to bring the town together behind a shared vision for the future.
Chaired by Labour Councillor Arooj Shah, of St Mary’s ward, she is determined to further strengthen links throughout the community.
She said: “The overall goal is to create a fair exchange of views where we can listen to concerns and build mutual relationships.
“We are ambitious for Oldham and we want to motivate everybody to have a shared vision.
“It’s part of everybody’s responsibility to improve the town and we want to show that this is not just rhetoric. We want to strengthen networks.
“The meetings have gone really well. Pubs are vital for us to engage with because they meet so many people on a daily basis, if they can report back to us, we can act where necessary.”
