GRIEVING . . . Dr Mona El-Farra
A DOCTOR who works with a Saddleworth group supporting women in Gaza has been left devastated after nine members of her family were killed in the conflict in the region.
The Saddleworth Palestine Women’s Scholarship Fund (SPWSF), which raises money to help women in Gaza enter further education, expressed its shock at the loss suffered by its co-ordinator in Gaza, Dr Mona El-Farra.
Dr El-Farra, a physician and human rights activist in the Gaza Strip, provides a link between the organisation and those seeking scholarships for further education.
A statement released by the Middle East Children’s Alliance, which Dr El-Farra was part of, confirmed that nine members of her family, including her cousins and their five children, the youngest of which was just four years old, were killed in Khan Younis last week.
Kathy Brooks, a spokesperson for the SPWSF, said: “We are deeply saddened and appalled by the deaths of Dr Mona El-Farra’s family members. Dr El-Farra has worked tirelessly for justice for Palestinians and she is a key worker in ensuring the success of the scholarship fund.
“I cannot begin to imagine the devastating grief she must be feeling.”
