Date published: 05 August 2014
THE heavens may have opened up over the weekend but that did not dampen the spirits of the residents of Garden Suburb who came out to greet their new Rose Queen.
Dressed in a long white dress and tiara, Melissa Marley was crowned at the 105th Rose Queen gala by the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Fida Hussain, with his wife, Mayoress Tanvir Hussain.
The procession was headed by Boarshurst Band and Melissa’s first duty was to present the Mayor with a donation towards the mayor’s appeal.
Retiring rose queen Faith Maudsley was present as the crowd enjoyed cream teas at the pavilion in Green Lane.
