Renovated roof will be knock-out

A KNOCK-OUT grant is set to transform the long-suffering roof at Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Club.
Work has now started on the £50,000 installation of a new roof at the club based in Victoria House in Greaves Street.
The club has renovated the building since it moved in back in June, 2013, but so far limited funds meant that the roof could only be patched up rather than replaced.
Now funding has been secured from various sources, including The Veolia Environmental Trust, which has awarded a grant of £35,000 through the Landfill Communities Fund.
Club director, Eric Noi, said: “The new roof will make the building safe, comfortable and fit-for-purpose. It will help us continue to provide the opportunity for members of the community to lead healthy, active lives and we are so pleased that work has started.”
Executive director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, Paul Taylor, added: “We support a range of community and environmental projects throughout the UK and it is great to hear that this one is now under way.”
