Get a Job scheme safeguards our future

TWO Oldham lads are reaping the benefits of a drive to Get Oldham Working after securing a job at catering specialists Safeguard through Mahdlo’s Get a Job project.
Matthew Semple and Mark Jones were both unemployed when they went to youth charity Mahdlo for help getting back to work.
Mahdlo’s employability and enterprise co-ordinator Chris Hughes enrolled them on the Get a Job project, helping them gain the necessary skills and confidence to find employment and used Mahdlo’s relationship with Safeguard to secure the pair a week’s work experience.
Safeguard Group have joined forces with the Get A Job project to devise their own unique programme to help young people into work. Education, communities and sales lead Ben Ingham was so impressed with what he saw that he offered Matt and Mark permanent positions.
Mark (20) had left his previous position seven months ago before entering the programme and said he was delighted to be back at work,
He said: “I feel so much happier now I’m working again. I’ve got more money and more motivation. I’ve been saying that I wanted to get back into work so doing the course has really helped me a lot.”
Matt (22) had been unemployed for two years after he was laid off from working in recycling tyres.
He said: “I was just at home all the time before. I wanted to work but didn’t know the best way to go about it.
“Now I’m here I’m really enjoying doing anything and everything. It is great having my own money and feeling good about myself.”
Mr Ingham said he was delighted with the effort shown by both young men and urged other businesses to get involved with Mahdlo.”
