A £420,000 project to boost the power network to almost 3,000 residents and businesses in Grotton and Mossley is well under way.
Electricity North-West is installing 4km of new and improved underground electricity cable between Mill Street in Mossley and Coverhill Road in Grotton.
The project, which will be completed by December, will help provide a reliable supply of electricity and reduce any impact on customer power supplies now and in the future.
Tim Groom, head of major projects for Electricity North-West, said: “This project is vital to ensure we continue to keep the lights on for our customers in Mossley and Oldham.
“We all take electricity for granted, but when there is an unexpected fault on the network it can greatly impact on our everyday lives which is why this project is crucial.
“Unfortunately there is no way to install these underground cables without some disruption, but I hope drivers and residents in the area understand the need for this essential project and we promise to keep any disruption to a minimum.”
There will be a series of road closures during the project. They are Stamford Road, Mossley, until August 30, Mill Street, Mossley, September 1-7, Coverhill Road, Grotton, September 15-19 and Lees Road, October 6-13.
Electricity North-West is funding two shuttle buses to replace the service on Stamford Road.
