Mum takes a Shine to skydiving

A CHADDERTON mum is taking fundraising to new heights by skydiving 11,000ft in memory of her unborn son.

Keeley Bardsley (29) is taking to the skies to raise money for the Shine charity, which supports sufferers of spina bifida, the condition her 12-week-old unborn son, Lewis, lost his life to in the womb nearly two years ago.

The mother-of-three said she felt she had to do something like this to remember Lewis and help others with the same condition.

Mrs Bardsley said: “I’m doing this in memory of my son. I really felt that doing something like this was a great way of raising money.”

The former Radclyffe School pupil will be joined by her two cousins, Nathan Atherton (29) and Estelle Canaly (29), at Black Knight’s parachute centre, Lancaster, on Sunday as they all take the leap to mark their 30th birthday.

Also joining them will be Estelle’s partner Matt Garner.

They will freefall at up to the speeds of 120 miles per hour before their parachutes open at 5,000 feet.

Mrs Bardsley said: “We have all been wanting to do this for some time now so we just went ahead and decided to do it. With us all turning 30 this year as well it just seemed like a perfect way to mark our birthdays.”

Mrs Bardsley said that jumping from such a great height is not worrying her.

She said: “I’m more excited than nervous really. This is something I have built myself up to do for a while and I am looking forward to doing it.

“I must admit that as I get closer to the date I’m doing it I think I will get a bit nervous.”
