Flying the flag for independence

OLDHAM Council raised the national flag of Pakistan yesterday to mark the country’s independence anniversary.
The flag was raised at 9am from the Civic Centre to celebrate 68 years since Pakistan achieved independence.
There was also a flag-raising ceremony at the Pakistani Community Centre, Marble Street, Oldham.
Members raised their own flag at 11.30am, with the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Fida Hussain, present alongside other Oldham councillors.
Guests then read speeches to mark the day.
The event was followed by a short exhibition game of volleyball.
