AN arts group is hoping to reach out to Oldham’s older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community by working with Age UK.
Performance Plaza, based at the former Failsworth Volunteer Centre, Ashton Road West, has already recorded Age UK Oldham’s singing group for a forthcoming album.
The group’s recently-christened Arts Hub is home to music, writing, drama and craft workshops.
And now the group’s co-founders, Paul Burgess and Jason Bromley, want to form stronger links with Age UK.
The aim is to to encourage more senior members of the borough’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community to join them at the hub.
They also want the older residents to help them explore and preserve Oldham’s LGBT past.
Paul said: “We’ve got older members of the community across Oldham who don’t really venture into pubs and bars and can sometimes be at risk of social isolation.
“We’re offering a comfortable place to have a brew, watch a film and chat with like-minded people.”
The hub is holding a LGBT film night on August 29 to start fortnightly Friday social sessions.
