Adam Barlow: back at the Coliseum

OLDHAM Coliseum’s new season opens early next month with a classic Seventies comedy musical from Liverpool playwright Willy Russell.

“Our Day Out: The Musical” sees a remedial class unleashed from the classroom for a day of fun.

And one of the actors taking centre stage will be Adam Barlow, who plays one of the teachers struggling to keep order as the kids sing and dance rings round them.

Adam has appeared at the theatre several times - most notably in the Coliseum’s open-air version of Romero and Juliet in Alexandra Park and in last year’s award-winning production of “Chicago”.

“This musical is very different from Chicago,” he says. “Where that had a cast of 16 - including 10 people playing instruments, in “Our Day Out” we have a cast of nine actors and a total of 27 children, working in two teams, who will sing and dance.

“Though the style is similar, in that we have musician-actors on stage, I know the real stars will be the young actors.”

The Coliseum has become a special place for the Bolton-born actor: “It gave me my first acting job in the north and really opened doors for me,” he revealed.

“Our Day Out: The Musical”, directed by Kevin Shaw runs from September 5-27.
