HUMAN Aid UK, which has an Oldham office, is being investigated by the Charity Commission.
The independent regulator of charities in England and Wales opened a statutory inquiry into the charity, but has stressed that an investigation isn’t proof of wrongdoing.
The charity raises money for areas in which conflict and famine have left despair in their wake. The local office is in Featherstall Road South.
The investigation will examine the financial controls and management of the charity and whether or not the trustees have fulfilled their duties under charity law.
A spokesperson for Human Aid UK said the charity has been cooperating with the Charity Commission for over 18 months.
They added: “Human Aid UK has grown rapidly over the last two years as a result of public support for our work in Syria. Our donors understand the importance of the work we have been doing. We wish to reassure them there is no evidence of any wrongdoing. Our work will continue.”
