A MAN suffered serious leg injuries following a hit-and- run on Saturday.
Police are appealing for witnesses after the 31-year-old victim was hit by a blue Vauxhall Astra at 1.25pm in Cross Street, near the junction with Lees Road.
The car sped off down Lees Road away from the town centre, leaving the man with a serious leg fracture.
PC Simon McEvoy said: “Instead of trying to help the man they left lying seriously injured, they sped off in an effort to protect themselves. The car is believed to be not more than five years old.
“If you believe you have any information, please call police.
“I also want to appeal directly to the driver. Please contact us, you are only making matters worse for yourself.”
Call police on 856 8809 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.
