Prof John Anchor
FORMER Oldham councillor John Anchor has become a professor.
The 55 year old lecturer, who lives in Ripponden Road, Moorside, has been made professor of international strategy at Huddersfield University. He is also head of strategy and marketing at the university’s business school.
Prof Anchor retired from Oldham Council in May 2008 after representing Waterhead for 21 years. He oversaw the creation of First Choice Homes Oldham, which manages the borough’s council housing.
Prof Anchor did his degree and doctorate at Manchester University and lectured in economics at Staffordshire University before joining Huddersfield in 1987.
He has managed a number of international projects for Huddersfield — the UK’s current University of the Year — and currently leads three projects to bring researchers and students from central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa to the university.
“I am delighted to be honoured by the university,” he said. “I am particularly pleased that this has happened during our time as the UK’s University of the Year.”
