Children go green on yellow school buses

CHADDERTON school pupils returned from their summer holidays this week by going green on a new environmentally-friendly yellow bus.

Children at Newman College are among the hundreds of Greater Manchester youngsters to get their first yellow school bus service, designed to cut congestion caused by the school run.

The latest, £210,000 hybrid buses reduce exhaust emissions by up to 35 per cent over diesel buses.

Of the 93-strong fleet, 52 are now hybrids, and 34 older diesel school buses are due to be fitted with pollution-control equipment.

Since their introduction in 2003, Greater Manchester’s yellow school buses have taken millions of car journeys off the road. More than 3,000 pupils use the buses each day.
