Angela Rayner: Labour’s prospective candidate for Ashton and Failsworth
LABOUR has chosen its prospective parliamentary candidate for the Ashton constituency, which covers Failsworth.
Angela Rayner will stand for the seat following the announcement in March that current MP David Heyes will not stand for re-election due to health reasons.
Angela was selected from an all-woman shortlist that included Oldham Councillor and deputy leader Jean Stretton.
Mrs Raynor said: “I’m delighted to have been chosen to fight the General Election for Labour in Ashton.
“I’ve spent most of my working life as care worker, sometimes on pretty low pay. I know exactly what people in Ashton, Droylsden and Failsworth are facing under this government.”
Mrs Rayner, a mother of three, grew up on Bridge Hall Estate, Stockport and joined the Labour Party a decade ago. She also represents 200,000 public sector workers in the North-West as a Unison lay official.
