TWO shih tzu dogs were savaged and one of them killed by a pair of Staffordshire bull terriers.
Distraught owner Debra Forman (48), of Royton, was walking Ebony and Millie near Turf Lane on Saturday morning when the two unrestrained terriers launched a vicious attack. Both she and the owner of the other dogs tried to separate them. Ebony was rushed to the vet with life-threatening injuries and died yesterday.
“I was walking along the same lane I’ve always used and suddenly the two dogs appeared off their leads. There was no warning, they just attacked. Their owner was busy talking and didn’t notice. It happened in a split second.
“My dogs were on one lead and the other dogs were trying to pull them in all directions. I had to let go so I could try and grab the Staffies. Then the owner ran over and managed to pull one of them off Millie.
“Ebony is so small and the other dog was shaking her like a rag doll. When it let go she was lifeless.
I wanted them to attack me and leave my dogs alone. I’m devastated.”
Rescue dog Millie, who Ms Forman has had for 12 months, also suffered serious injuries. Debra has reported the attack to police.
A spokesman said: “We are ascertaining whether the dogs that carried out the attack were dangerously out of control.”
