A DRINKER who called police for a lift to Tesco - then damaged their car - has been fined by Oldham magistrates.
Damien Swain (39) called police in the early hours of August 27, and when officers arrived he demanded a ride to the supermarket. When they refused he kicked and damaged their car door.
Prosecutor Mr Robin Lynch, said: “Mr Swain said he wanted something to eat from Tesco but believed he would have been committing an offence for binge drinking had he gone out himself.
“He said he could not remember what he said to the officer but he believes his actions were a cry for help.”
Swain, described by a probation officer as suffering from poor mental health, is already serving a 12-month community order for a previous offence. The defence said Swain had cooperated and recommended his current supervision order be extended by three months.
Magistrates extended the order to May 2015 and imposed a six-month Alcohol Treatment order.
Swain, who is already paying £255 in fines, was also ordered to pay £200 for the car damage and a £10 victim surcharge.
