Yew Trees chief defends home plans

The company behind the conversion of the former Yew Trees care home into shared-occupancy flats has reassured objectors its tenants will be “respectable neighours”.

The proposal by Simple Living to use the building for 19 single-room, shared-facilities homes resulted in a 250-strong petition by local objectors.

But Simple Living director Helen Reed says the new tenants won’t disrupt the peaceful community.

Simple Living offers single rooms for rent, with shared bathroom and kitchen and all bills included in tne rental price.

“Local residents have raised concerns but should take comfort that we only offer high-quality accommodation and vet our tenants very carefully,” said Mrs Reed. “We aim for the more mature tenant and seek working, semi-retired and retired people who like to live among like-minded, respectable people.”

Simple Living’s most recent project was the 10-bed Grange Fell in Ripponden Road, and Mrs Reed suggested objectors might like to visit on open days to how the properties operate.
