READY for the chop: Crompton House pupil Tom Hulme is having his locks cut for charity
Education Secretary Nicky Morgan and former Conservative MP Edwina Currie have agreed to sponsor young Oldhamer Tom Hulme’s head-shave for charity.
The Crompton House pupil is also being sponsored by his local MP, Debbie Abrahams.
Tom (15), who has been growing his shoulder-length hair for six years, will raise money for Manchester’s Christie Hospital following the death of an aunt from a brain tumour in November.
The shave will take place at his school on September 26 - and so far sponsors have pledged almost £250.
Tom, a member of the Oldham East and Saddleworth Conservative Party, is meanwhile helping election campaigns in the marginal seats of Hazel Grove and Bury North.
“Edwina Currie is a friend, and I’m also quite active in the Conservative Party so I wrote to Nicky Morgan,” said Tom, who also contacted Mrs Abrahams.
“My aunt Irene was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour last October, on her 72nd birthday. This was a complete shock to the family and we were all devastated.
“Her response was incredible. She said ‘I can’t complain, I’ve had a wonderful life’.
“I decided a few months ago that I would have all of my hair — which is quite a lot— shaved off and give any money to the Christie Hospital, which is a wonderful cause.”
