Delayed £9m school is up and running

A NEW school hit by building delays opened today, three weeks late.
Construction has been completed on the £9 million GM building — short for Greater Manchester University Technical College — at Oldham College.
It will offer an alternative to secondary school for children aged 14 and over who will take vocational engineering courses alongside traditional GCSEs and A-levels.
The building was due to open on September 2 but constructors failed to meet what college bosses described as an “ambitious timescale”.
Just over 100 students will be in the new building - much lower than its initial quota of 240. At full capacity it will house up to 600 pupils.
