Homing in on Right to Build
Date published: 03 October 2014
OLDHAM has been selected as one of 11 areas across the country to benefit from a new government scheme to help people hoping to build their home.
Oldham Council will receive £15,000 to support aspiring self-builders in the borough by selling off council-owned land. The Right to Build scheme is the latest in a range of measures designed to help those looking to build their own home.
Councillor Dave Hibbert, Oldham Council’s Cabinet member for housing, planning and transport, said: “We are very supportive of residents who want to create their own custom-built properties in the borough.”
NEARLY 200 households in Oldham have bought a home through the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, new figures show.
From April 2013-August 2014, 61 homes in Oldham were bought through the equity loan and new-buy options and another 120 through the mortgage guarantee.
