Schoolchildren are hoping their plan to hatch a colourful investment will lay more than just golden eggs.
The 10 and 11 year old entrepreneurs have bought more than 20 chickens... with a difference. As well as laying traditional brown and white eggs, the birds lay BLUE ones too!
Class 5 pupils at Diggle Primary School drew up a cracking business plan for the novel project before presenting their ideas to governors. And now under the title “Diggle Rainbow Eggs” they are aiming to produce the unusual boxes of eggs for sale.
Their egg-cellent venture has been backed by the school, which has built a chicken coop and run for the birds in the playground.
Deputy head Stephanie Moore said: “Having the chickens teaches the children about the whole food process and gives them an insight into operating a business. They all love the idea.”
To cover costs, the school has offered shares in the business to pupils, parents, governors and teachers.
