Green light for safer crossing

SAFETY upgrades at an accident blackspot where a 12-year-old schoolgirl was killed just days before Christmas are due to be completed today.
Pedestrian-controlled traffic lights have been installed at the junction of Milnrow Road, Linney Lane and Salts Street in Shaw, just yards from the former zebra crossing where Annalise Holt was hit by a van just before Christmas.
The final layout was chosen following public consultation earlier this year, part of Oldham Council’s examination of pedestrian crossings across the borough.
Danny Shepherd, who led campaigns for impoved safety at the crossing, said: “It cost the life of a young girl and we should not forget why this is now here.
“People using the crossing should still be aware when they use it and parents should ensure they teach their children about being careful.”
