ALT primary school is celebrating after becoming the borough’s latest academy — and aims to become outstanding.
Its new name is Alt Academy and it is sponsored by the local academy chain Harmony Trust, which is led by Greenhill Primary School.
Alt was placed in special measures following an inspection in November, 2013, when it was found to be providing an unacceptable standard of education.
Since then the education watchdog has returned twice to monitor progress and the school is making reasonable progress.
The governors were replaced with an interim executive board (IEB) and Gordon Leach, head teacher at Hey with Zion School, was brought in as executive head teacher.
“What we are looking for is an excellent standard of education for our children. SATs results have improved considerably this year, attendance has improved and there are lot of strategies in place.” said Mr Leach.
