OLDHAM’S South Asian Community is set to tailored dementia support in a new scheme from the Oldham Alzheimer’s Society.
The programme aims to help improve the lives of Asians with dementia as well as giving families culturally-tailored knowledge, skills and understanding to support those with the disease.
Coppice Neighbourhood Group will be partnering the Alzheimer’s Society in the programme, which is funded by Lloyds Banking Group as part of its Live Well charity of the year campaign.
Helen Morris of the Alzheimer’s Society, said: “Dementia can be a scary and confusing experience and cultural elements such as language and families’ close-knit bonds can make it harder for South Asian families to get advice.
“Coppice Neighbourhood Group will bring a wealth of experience in communicating on health issues to the Pakistani community in this neighbourhood.”
The first session, which is open to all interested in finding out more about the four-week programme, will take place at Coppice Neighbourhood Centre, Werneth Hall Road, on November 5, running from 11am to 1.30pm, with a light lunch provided.
