GREATER Manchester Police dealt with 2,626 calls during their Twitter Day yesterday, when they used the power of social media to reveal the variety of daily police work.
Details were tweeted as they happened with a wealth of calls in Oldham reporting domestic incidents, suspicious circumstances, missing people and theft.
For 24 hours, the force tweeted about all calls it received and provided an insight into the most challenging work.
Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy said: “Since our first Twitter Day in 2010, the force has shrunk by 1,400 officers and it has become more of a challenge to maintain the service to the public.
“Four years ago, people were surprised by the range of incidents we have to deal with.
“We have a tremendous workforce which shows great dedication, patience and compassion. Our staff have great concern about the consequences of further reductions we will face.”
