A VETERAN hotelier remains hopeful despite seeing plans for an 18-bedroom annex rejected.
Anthony Baker (78), has developed the four-star Saddleworth Hotel on the main A62 Oldham-Huddersfield Road on the outskirts of Delph for half a century.
But Saddleworth Parish Council planning committee has recommended refusal of his plan to build a new three-storey detached annex.
Parish councillor Alan Roughley said: “It’s inappropriate development in the Green Belt. Special circumstances for allowing the application haven’t been demonstrated.”
But Mr Baker isn’t giving up hope. Oldham Council has the final say on planning permission and Mr Baker hopes for a more favourable decision.
He said: “We are a successful family business and the expansion will create local employment opportunities.
“Oldham Council understands the development would allow the business to develop, delivering improved services and facilities for tourism in the area.”
