Slaughterhouse CCTV call
Date published: 07 November 2014
A hundred MPs have now showed support for a move to fit CCTV cameras in slaughterhouses.
Oldham MPs Michael Meacher and David Heyes have signed the Early Day Motion tabled by Grahame Morris MP, which is supported by MPs from all parties.
The motion says CCTV should be mandatory in slaughterhouses. It adds that out of nine slaughterhouses secretly filmed by Animal Aid, eight breached the law. The move is designed to protect animals from barbaric or illegal practices.
Early Day Motions are a way for MPS to gain attention for particular causes and often go no further due to lack of support - which is not the case here.
