House arson witness appeal
Date published: 11 November 2014
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an arson attack on a Werneth house.
The attack happened in Deva Square between midnight and 1am on Friday. The culprits set fire to rubbish, and the fire spread to the front door of the two-storey maisonette.
A couple was woken by the flames and escaped through the back of the house.
Det Cons Philip Wilson said: “Luckily this couple were able to escape before the fire took hold and managed to call emergency services. If they hadn’t been disturbed the fire could have had fatal consequences.
“We don’t know why this home was targeted but clearly we need to find the person responsible.”
Call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
