OLDHAM’S roller derby team is heading to Sweden to take part in a tournament for Europe’s top 10 teams.
Rainy City Roller Girls will compete at the event in Malmo from Friday.
Vice-captain Faye-tal Blonde said: “We feel honoured to be a part of the tournament. Being picked to play in this tournament was definitely one of our goals for the year.”
Rainy City Roller Girls - the area’s first roller derby team - was established in 2008. Finalist sin this year’s Oldham Sport Awards, the members operate from the “Thunderdome” — the former Astoria in King Street, the UK’s only dedicated roller derby venue.
Faye-tal Blonde added: “It’s an amazing opportunity and experience to skate with some of the best teams in Europe and show what this team from Oldham is all about.”
