Delph’s pop-up then popped-down shop
LOCAL retail bosses are meeting council officers today after a temporary pop-up shop closed days after opening.
Villagers in Delph had to go elsewhere for provisions after the mini-store closed on Friday afternoon.
The portable Co-Operative shop was a temporary replacement while the main store in King Street undergoes a £290,000 refurbishment. Customers were left puzzled by the shop’s sudden closure.
Keith Begley, former chair of Saddleworth Parish Council, who lives in the village, said: “We believe it may have been closed over a licence issue. It’s the only shop in the village and the closure of the temporary store put a lot of pressure on people. It’s all been rather heavy-handed and people did not understand what was happening.”
A spokesman for the Co-op said there had bee a licensing issue: “We hope to reopen as soon as possible, but in the meantime we apologise to customers for the inconvenience.”
