A COMMUNITY hopes its plan to build seven eco-homes in Diggle will soon become a reality as it looks for two more families to join the project.
The deadline for purchase of the land is December 12, and with five families already signed, the group hopes to get two more after a meeting at the village’s Hanging Gate pub next Tuesday.
The land at Ward Lane is being sold by Oldham Council with permission for 12 homes. The group hoping to buy will build eco-homes more in keeping with the surrounding area.
Stella Morris, who hopes to be ne of the self-builders, said: “We don’t want to see 12 ordinary houses build there; we want our own eco community.
“We have five families but we need seven to make it viable. We want to get as much support as we can and build these sustainable homes.”
Eco architects AKA Community, who worked on the “invisible home” built into a hillside in Delph, will help design the homes if the group can buy the land. Building will use sustainable materials and create a minimal carbon footprint.
Mrs Morris, who currently lives in Chadderton, said: “We’ve never done anything like this before but we are a group of local people who are really keen to build sustainable, affordable homes in the area.
Tuesday’s meeting starts at 7pm. Information from Stella at: s.l.morris@outlook.com.
